The chest is the part of the body located between the neck and abdomen, housing vital organs such as the heart, lungs, and esophagus. The ribcage, made up of ribs and the sternum (breastbone), protects these organs while allowing the chest to expand and contract during breathing. The lungs in the chest are responsible for oxygenating blood and removing carbon dioxide, while the heart pumps blood throughout the body. The chest also contains major blood vessels like the aorta and vena cava, which transport blood to and from the heart. The diaphragm, a muscle beneath the chest, plays a key role in respiration by helping to control breathing.
